Israel's Security a Heightened Issue for Likud Government

Temple Mount, JerusalemDuring a time when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud-led coalition has put into place the largest government in Israel's history, renewed threats from neighboring nations and terror groups have made national security a heightened issue in Israel.

The largely Lebanese-based terrorist group Hizbullah has been causing a stir as of late, not only with respect to Israel, but also in Egypt, causing these two nations to unite efforts in combating possible attacks within their territories.
An alleged sleeper cell of Hizbullah was recently discovered within Egyptian borders, and Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak has taken a strong stance against Hizbullah terrorism in the nation by condemning and prosecuting the illegal activities and threats from within their Egypt's borders. In all, 49 terrorists were arrested who allegedly had made plans to attack Israeli tourists vacationing in the Sinai Peninsula. The terrorists were also purported to be planning activities of illegal weapons cooperation with Hamas in Gaza.

As Hizbullah poses an increased threat from the west and south, Iran continues to flex its muscles from the east, continually advancing in its nuclear program at a time when the number of opposing voices of concern in the international community have been diminishing.

King Abdullah II of Jordan has also recently raised an accusing voice against Israel's stance as a nation in the Middle East - hinting to Israel that more conflict will be on the horizon for the nation if it does not acquiesce to Palestinian demands. With relations with Syria a constant question mark in the north with regards to the oft-disputed Golan Heights region, Israel faces a multi-layered challenge in relating to its not-so-friendly neighbors.

Prayer Focus:

Pray for Israel's security against her enemies during these days in which the new government administration has taken the helm of the nation, and pray for wisdom for all the government ministers involved in making decisions for Israel.

"So the LORD gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it. The LORD gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers. And not a man of all their enemies stood against them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand." (Joshua 21:43-44, NKJV)
